Coming of Age

Having seen all the presentations on various Coming Of Age ceremonies from around the world, please respond to one of the following questions: Please produce a well written properly formatted paragraph. This will be assessed for a grade based on the usual writing rubric!

  • What similarities do you see among the Coming of Age ceremonies from around the world? Are there any commonalities? How could you explain this?
  • Compare your Coming of Age to that of other cultures. Do you see any value in the Coming of Age ceremonies of other cultures? Do you think that some of the Coming of Age ceremonies are valuable and perhaps prepare people better for adulthood than Western societies?

Welcome to "The Teen Years"

Welcome to your teen years that is! As we have been discussing in class, you are entering a very unique time in your life. You begin to put away the childish things, yet you want to hold on to them. You want more independence and freedom, but you may not be ready for the responsibilities that come along with those freedoms. You really begin to develop into the person that you will be. Your character is defined, your interests become more clear, and soon you will be asked to make decisions that will affect you for many years to come.
On this blog we will discuss these issues and give you a venue to express yourself and share these thoughts with your peers. I will be asking you to post responses to writing prompts and discussion questions to both the class novel being read, or other issues being discussed. I ask that you compose thoughtful responses. Please be aware that this is a class 'project'. It is not a social network that you may be involved in with other friends. I will be reading your entries, and so will others.
So, let's have fun with this while we learn more about each other and ourselves!
